This year Live Composers saw Deptford Green and Prendergast Secondary
School work with the incredible multi instrumentalist and composer Sarah
Freestone. Freestone is a member of the BBC Concert Orchestra. She began
her musical career aged 7 playing and singing in folk clubs. She went on to
study guitar and violin as joint principal studies at the Royal Academy of
Music, winning several prizes and awards on the way. She also studied bass
guitar with the late great Jeff Cline, playing with the Royal Academy of Music
Big Band. She has performed worldwide with artists including Alison Moyet
and the legendary Lee Hazlewood! Freestones list of achievements are
lengths, and we are so pleased that the young people of Lewisham had the
chance to learn from a world-class composer.
The 18 young composers each performed their new exciting piece which was
inspired by Trinity Labans ‘Venus Blazing’ programme and aimed to respond
to and celebrate writing by women. The composers;
Jacob Evans
Dima Semir and Kaya Burton
Camilla Villamagua, Dehanna Sehi, Diane Diaz Grijalva and Ranya Bouchat
Leon Human – Resolving Arguments
Emily Gambrill
Prosper Challice
Ella Cain, Erin Parson and Shannon Stephens
Ademola Olayede, Elisha Kiala, Nefertareen McFarlane, Rolitta Semmanda
and Tobias Enobakhare
Jasmine Robinson and Luanna Hamlet
Joe McNicoll – The Seagull
A huge well done to everyone who took part and performed in the night, and a
special thanks to the Trinity Laban Students who assisted on the project and
performed on the night!
